Florida's Department of Education is in need of Subject Matter Experts to help design a new program entitled "Digital Media Technology"

Colleagues,

For those of you who are perhaps not aware, we are merging the Multimedia Design Technology and the New Media Technology programs into a single program entitled Digital Media Technology. Though we have a number of programs available to instruct students on the production of digital assets, nothing currently exists for the IT person who would be responsible for installing, configuring, and maintaining digital production environments…essentially ensuring that all the different components and specialized equipment can talk and play nicely together. These skills are not necessarily part of the arsenal of skills expected from a normal IT technician.

The new Digital Media program will be a true IT program, and although there will be certainly standards relating to creating objects or assets using special software, the primary focus will be a strong emphasis on the technical underpinnings of the technology. For instance, if you wanted to set up or repair a full motion capture rig in your work area, or if you needed to integrate multiple technologies related to the creation of digital media products, the IT people who would be expected to accomplish that are the target audience of this new program. While there is a certain amount of technical expertise required of those who would use digital media tools in the creation of digital media products, their primary skill lies on the creative side of the equation. The new Digital Media Technology program will be the negative image of that…that is to say, perhaps 20 percent creative and 80 percent technical.

Where we need your help is in identifying subject matter experts who can, by working with the committee, ensure that we cover the appropriate skills, both creative and technical. If any of you have connections to individuals with acumen, the skill set, the experience, and the willingness to help guide this program to completion, please ask them to contact me directly. Although the people currently on the committee are very qualified, for the new program to be accepted by industry, it needs to be aligned by industry.

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Regards,

Duane
