Aerospace and defense giant Northrop Grumman is set up for more Central Florida growth after a major addition to its local footprint.
Northrop Grumman Corp. on June 30 held a grand opening for its new 88,000 square feet of office space at 2300 Discovery Drive. The lease in Central Florida Research Park, previously reported by Orlando Business Journal in October, consolidates two local Northrop Grumman facilities and puts 350 employees under one roof.
Plus, the new space gives the Falls Church, Virginia-based company room to further expand its local operations and bring more high-tech work to Orlando. That means more high-wage jobs and local office space are on the table, Northrop Grumman Defense Systems President Mary Petryszyn told OBJ.
Employees at the Northrop Grumman (NYSE: NOC) office will work on military satellite systems as well as C4I, a field that consists of command, control, communications, computers and intelligence systems. C4I was dubbed the “nervous system” of the military by the federal government’s National Research Council.
And that’s not all. The office may eventually encompass other operations that are part of Northrop Grumman’s defense systems division, Petryszyn said. Plus, it is not out of the question that the office welcomes employees from the company’s aeronautics systems or space systems divisions if needed, she added.
There is no timeline for workforce expansion in Orlando. However, Petryszyn said Northrop Grumman potentially could fit up to 1,500 people in the Discovery Drive office, and it would take more office space if it needs. “Orlando and Orange County is an attractive place to do business in.”
