Representing a group of community stakeholders, NCS has been awarded a $350,000 grant from the state to help forge a long range strategic action plan to fend off base closing threats and other fallout from U.S military spending cutbacks. President Obama has asked the Congress for two rounds of Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) in 2013 and 2015. Neither House of Congress has shown any support for a round in 2013, but it is prudent to assume, given the level of projected defense cuts, there will be a round of BRAC in 2015.
“We have to tell the story of Team Orlando,” said Lt Gen (Ret) Tom Baptiste, President/Executive Director, NCS. “We have to engage every level of government – from Capitol Hill to the Defense Department, and demonstrate to them that what we have here is a great case study of military cooperation that has become a national resource – something they would be ill-advised to break up.”
