A Florida firm’s upcoming trips will let passengers sip spirits in space.
Fresh off its first successful test flight on June 18, Space Perspective Inc. on June 23 began taking reservations for its first luxury balloon flights into space in 2024. Each six-hour trip will take up to eight passengers 20 miles above Earth’s surface, providing 360-degree views of the planet.
The Kennedy Space Center-based company’s vision of sending passengers to the edge of the atmosphere in a balloon is not just novel; it’s one of the earliest examples of an emerging space tourism market on Florida’s Space Coast.
Space Perspective targets high-end customers who may want to hold a corporate event or small wedding while peering down at Earth, or people who simply want to take part in the rare experience of space travel. Passengers will ride in a capsule outfitted with reclining seats, a bathroom and a bar.
