TECH, TALENT AND VC Can Orlando capitalize on the ‘Great Reshuffling? (by Alex Soderstrom)

The opportunity to change the message has arrived in the Great Reshuffling, a term coined by Zillow to define the rise in cross-country relocations during the pandemic. Powerful tech magnets like Boston, New York, Seattle and Silicon Valley have lost some of their pull amid the rising cost of living and more remote work, said Information Technology and Innovation Foundation President Robert Atkinson. In fact, a Bloomberg analysis of LinkedIn data showed a net outflow of tech workers from San Francisco, Boston and Chicago between May 2020 and April 2021.

That means tech workers, who Atkinson refers to as “iron filings,” likely will be drawn to the nation’s emerging tech cities. Central Florida now has a chance to pursue that talent and high-growth businesses, a course of action aggressively pursued by Miami Mayor Francis Suarez.
