ORLANDO, FLORIDA – JUNE 24, 2013 – The Tunnel to Towers Foundation (T2T), THE leading organization that collaborates and unites our first responders and military, is hosting in Orlando, Florida on September 7th, as part of their Tunnel To Towers 5K Run & Walk Series. Registration is now officially open at http://www.T2Trun.org/Orlando.
The T2T 5K Run & Walk will honor and celebrate the very core of each community in Central Florida – the first responders (fire, police, EMT’s, paramedics) and military service heroes who serve, sacrifice and protect every day. Proceeds benefit the most catastrophically injured service heroes including quadruple and triple amputee heroes who have made extraordinary sacrifices to defend our freedom.
“I can’t say enough about this tremendous volunteer organization, they are really making a difference in people’s lives,” said actor/director Steve Buscemi who, prior to acting, served with the Fire Department of New York City (FDNY) as a member of Engine 55. “I’ve seen how their support has helped our first responders and military heroes, not to mention the ongoing support they provide for the victims of Hurricane Sandy. It’s an honor to be a part of the Stephen Siller T2T Foundation.” Buscemi continues to give back to first responders and service members with the Tunnel To Towers Foundation.
The video message featuring Buscemi, which will run on local and national television and online can be seen here: Tunnel to Towers 5K Run/Walk – Orlando
The Tunnel To Towers Run first began in 2002 as a living-breathing memorial to FDNY hero, father of five, Stephen Siller. On September 11, 2001, Stephen was getting ready to play golf with his three brothers. When he heard what was happening at the World Trade Center site, Stephen headed towards the terror. His truck was stuck in panicked traffic outside the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel, but this did not deter brave Stephen. Instead, Stephen strapped on 60 lbs. of gear and ran on foot approximately three miles from the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel to the Twin Towers. Stephen was last seen with his brothers of Squad 1, all of whom perished. In honor of Stephen and all those that lost their lives on September 11, the Tunnel To Towers Run program champions our heroes “in the line of duty” the first responders and United States military – ensuring that “We Will Never Forget.”
Participants will have the opportunity to register online, and create their own “T2T” profile page which highlights their personal photo and allows them to share their story. Additionally, participants can compete to raise the most funds and recruit the most friends to their team for top prizes. Each Run will award the top recruiter and fundraiser at post-run ceremonies.
The T2T 5K Run & Walk events will take place in following cities: New York City, Cincinnati, OH, Columbia, SC, Fort Lauderdale, FL, Mobile, AL, Nashville, TN, Orlando, FL, Raleigh, NC, Savannah, GA, and Vero Beach, FL during the month of September. Declaring unified support and patriotism, all three Florida events will take place on Saturday, September 7, 2013. Proceeds of the runs benefit the Tunnel To Towers’ Building for America’s Bravest program, which provides specially adapted smart homes for our most catastrophically injured veterans returning home.
