Two formal Solicitation Opportunities from the Joint Program Committee 1 (JPC-1), Medical Simulation and Information Sciences

TO:  Colleagues in the Medical Modeling & Simulation (MM&S) Community of Interest

This is an INFORMAL, courtesy notice of TWO (2) formal Solicitation Opportunities from the Joint Program Committee 1 (JPC-1), Medical Simulation and Information Sciences, that have ALREADY been posted on official government web sites.

SUGGEST YOU READ CAREFULLY!!

Also, please remember that as announced last year, TATRC is now an intramural research laboratory, and its Medical Modeling & Simulation Innovation Center (MMSIC) — and four other research teams — can now lead research projects OR be partners with other organizations.  Yes, something to consider…

Attached are two Broad Agency Announcements that were released recently.  Submission instructions are contained in these documents. Although the solicitations are attached, GO TO THE ONLINE SOURCE for the official documents.  Sometimes “amendments” are posted.  I will not, repeat not, be sending out amendments; that’s what the official web sites are for.

OK, here are the important details:

#1 – Predictive Personality & Emotional State Performance Determinants for Training (PREEMPT).

This is a FY16 Broad Agency Announcement.

Important Dates are:

– Pre-Proposal/Pre-Application Deadline: 5:00 p.m. Eastern time (ET), May 11, 2016
– Invitation to Submit a Proposal/Application: June 15, 2016
– Full Proposal/Application Submission Deadline: 11:59 p.m. ET, August 22, 2016
– End of Proposal/Application Verification Period: 5:00 p.m. ET, August 29, 2016
– Scientific Peer Review: October 2016
– Programmatic Review: November 2016

PREEMPT seeks the development of a proof-of-concept task performance assessment tool that incorporates personality and emotional state as determinant components to predict an individual’s performance and overall stress level under a wide range of potential combat casualty care scenarios, environments, and other stressful situations relevant to patient care.

#2 – INter-professional TEam-based Learning in Early Stages of Learning (Team_INTEL).

This is a FY17 Broad Agency Announcement.

Dates are:
– Pre-Proposal/Pre-Application Deadline: 5:00 p.m. Eastern time (ET), May 11, 2016
– Invitation to Submit a Proposal/Application: June 15, 2016
– Full Proposal/Application Submission Deadline: 11:59 p.m. ET, August 22, 2016
– End of Proposal/Application Verification Period: 5:00 p.m. ET, August 29, 2016
– Scientific Peer Review: October 2016
– Programmatic Review: November 2016

Team_INTEL is seeking research to determine, define, and validate learning strategies that foster inter-professional team-based learning during the early stages, i.e. when teams are forming and groups are becoming familiar with each other and are starting to implement their roles and responsibilities of medical skills training in order to eliminate the current culture of focusing on the individual’s medical skills and leaving team training practice at a later date during “on the job training.”

You are certainly welcome — and encouraged — to “pass it on” to individuals within your organization(s) or to others who may be interested.

Warmest Regards, and Best to your Team(s)!
